Regression testing intends to verify that functional additions and bug fixes have not broken any existing functionality in incremental build versions. Running regression tests can be irksome sometimes for the tester as the same tests are executed repeatedly over builds. We do regression testing in a smart way, eliminating unnecessary repetition of test cases and allowing the tester to focus on the essential features in every regression cycle.

Out of the Functional test cases, we pick up critical tests which have higher impact when they fail. Also while testing the initial few builds, our testers observe the pattern of repeatable mistakes and move these test cases to regression suites. Once these regression suites are tested thoroughly, we do a full regression cycle to cover the entire application. For long term assignment, we even consider the scope for automating regression testing.
